The Andy Warhol Foundation Collaborates With eBay for Charity

The Andy Warhol Foundation has launched “Philanthropy Factory”, a new initiative aimed at supporting grantees through the sale of Warhol’s works.

Running until the 20th of August, the Foundation is auctioning over 400 pieces of works, including Polaroids, photographs, prints, printed materials, and vintage posters, all on a first-come first-serve basis, through the eBay for Charity platform. This unique auction offers collectors the opportunity to acquire a piece of Warhol's legacy, with prices ranging from $250 to $20,000 and a cumulative value estimated at around $1.5 million.

All the proceeds from the auction will directly benefit 74 American arts nonprofits. These include prominent institutions such as the Baltimore Museum of Art and New York's MoMA PS1, as well as smaller entities such as Stove Works in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This initiative aligns with the Foundation's ongoing mission to support organisations dedicated to the advancement of visual arts across the United States.

Since its foundation in 1987, the Andy Warhol Foundation has advocated for freedom of expression within the arts. The Foundation's core mission has always been to support visual arts, with a particular focus on work that is experimental, under-recognised, or challenging in nature.

“The Foundation is proud to celebrate its founder’s philanthropic vision and forward-thinking spirit with this creative, mission focused initiative that has the potential to meaningfully support artist-centered organizations of all sizes across the country,” said Michael Dayton Hermannof The Andy Warhol Foundation.

Over the years, the Foundation has supported over 1,000 arts organisations, gifted over 55,000 works of art to institutions worldwide, and become one of the leading funders of contemporary art in the United States, having distributed nearly $300 million in cash grants.
