Founded in 1766, Christie’s operates in 46 countries. In 2021, the auction house committed to becoming a sustainability leader in the art and luxury sector, setting ambitious targets to achieve Net Zero carbon emissions by 2030. Their plan includes reducing emissions by 50% by 2030 and 90% by 2050, alongside transparent progress reporting and collaboration with industry partners to support climate action.
“As a market leader, Christie’s has a special responsibility in terms of protecting our environment and building a more sustainable business for now and for the future," said CEO Guillaume Cerutti. "We are committing to defined targets and transparent communication of our progress, while supporting collaboration across the industry.”
Christie’s fourth Environmental Impact Report, published in April 2023, highlighted a significant 57% reduction in carbon emissions since 2019. Julien Pradels, Global Head of Operations at Christie’s, pointed out that the company has made substantial progress since 2021, adapting its operations and partnering with suppliers to meet near-term goals.
