Over the course of his sixty-year career, Robert Rauschenberg (1925-2008) was a pioneering artist, renowned for his spirit of experimentation with new materials and techniques. He is best known for his series of works “Combines”, which blend painting and sculpture. Beyond his artistic achievements, Rauschenberg was an advocate for artists and for using art to drive social change.
The artist’s commitment will be echoed in a series of grants, exhibitions, performances, publications, and public programmes worldwide. Launching in 2025 and continuing throughout 2026, the celebrations will explore Rauschenberg’s legacy through a contemporary lens, offering fresh insights into his art. “The Centennial serves as not only a moment to reflect on Rauschenberg's indelible legacy, but also as a catalyst for the century ahead,” said Courtney J. Martin, Executive Director of the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation. “Through these celebrations, our vision is to move his ethos forward and reinforce his relevance to artists, changemakers, and communities today and in the future.”
The Rauschenberg 100 celebrations will feature a series of major exhibitions and performances across prominent international venues, offering a deep dive into the artist's collaborations and innovative works.
