The third edition of the Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art will take place starting on July 15 and will be running until October 2 2022.

Titled "Exercises in Respect" and curated by René Block, the main exhibition will be located in Andrejsala and will be exhibiting 63 artists.

The artistic idea behind the event is to give artists the freedom to develop their own narrative and give space to their experimental expression by not imposing a strict curatorial theme on them.

Regarding the artistic direction of the event, René Block, in a press release, had this to say: "With a long history of phenomena, gestures of respect often signify an attempt at understanding each other on an equal footing despite our differences. This edition embraces the variety of voices it presents across continents and generations, striking both in harmony and disharmony with each other as they come together."

Some of the artists to be featured include: Alicja Kwade, Superflex, Ayşe Erkmen, Tamar Harpaz, Ceal Floyer, Jason Dodge and Richard Wentworth. The exhibition will also be displaying its largest number of Latvian artists to date.

In parallel to the main exhibition, the former St. George's Church will host 38 well known artists who will be displaying their prints in the city's oldest stone building.
