Curated by Francine Birbragher-Rozencwaig and Juan Canela, the Biennial brings together thirty artists and collectives, with a particular emphasis on the work of five pioneering women. Celebrated as an "inspiration, anchor, and starting point of the event", Margarita Azurdia, Ana Mendieta, Fina Miralles, Maria Terezha Negreiros, and Cecilia Vicuña take centre stage.
Margarita Azurdia, Rabinal from the Series Geometric Paintings, 1973, Acrylic on canvas. John Gody Collection.
The organisers explain that the artworks presented in five locations "delve into linguistic, poetic, dreamlike, telluric, political, psychic, emotional, or affective territories in which materialities, subjectivities and desires take shape from the conviction of building bridges".
